The Dialogue Lab: Advancing Difficult Conversations

The Dialogue Lab: Advancing Difficult Conversations is a one-day intensive challenge exploring how we can improve the quality of dialogue on complex, sensitive and polarised issues.

Through practical exercises drawn from acting training, mediation and communication practice, students will test tools for listening carefully, expressing ideas clearly and navigating disagreement with greater confidence. The session is not about reaching agreement, but about understanding how difficult conversations work, where they get stuck, and what might help them become more open, precise and constructive.

Students will take part in group activities, listening and speaking exercises, language games, and structured discussions on topics selected by the group. By the end of the day, participants will have developed greater self-awareness, practical dialogue skills and a deeper understanding of both the possibilities and limits of conversation across difference.
