This opportunity is part of the King's Edge Summer Skills Programme

Programme overview

This two‑week, in‑person training programme introduces you to community organising – an approach that brings people together to build community‑led solutions to shared challenges.

Delivered in partnership with King’s Volunteering and Citizens UK, the programme is open to up to 60 King’s College London students who want to learn how to create change alongside others.

--

What you’ll learn

Across the two weeks, you will learn how to:

- Understand the core principles of community organising

- Explore relational power and identify shared interests

- Use practical organising tools, including relational one‑to‑ones and building core teams

- Apply your learning by engaging others and taking collective action

You will also explore the five steps to social change: organise, listen, plan, act, and negotiate. The programme combines learning from experienced community organisers, practical exercises, peer learning, and reflection.

About Citizens UK

Citizens UK is the UK’s largest people‑powered alliance, bringing together local organisations and everyday people to win change on issues that matter. Their work is rooted in community organising, from local campaigns (such as safer roads) to national movements like the Living Wage and refugee justice.
