Join us this March and April for a free, in-person 6-week British Sign Language (BSL) course delivered by the King’s Language Centre. This interactive course introduces students to the foundations of BSL and Deaf culture, helping you develop practical communication skills and a deeper understanding of the Deaf community.
Throughout the course, you will learn essential language skills including greetings, numbers, times and dates, describing people, activities and the weather, and engaging in simple everyday conversations. The course also introduces the grammatical structure of BSL and key cultural aspects of Deaf culture.
Classes are taught by a member of the Deaf community and focus on interactive learning, collaboration, and real-life communication scenarios. You will practise your skills through group activities designed to recreate everyday situations where BSL is used.
Important: This is a progressive course and students must attend all six sessions, as knowledge builds week-by-week. Students who complete the full programme will have the opportunity to apply for an additional 15 hours of study to work towards a Level 1 BSL qualification.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, although learners with some prior knowledge are also welcome.
There are only 13 spaces available, and excellent attendance and punctuality are essential.
Eligibility: This course is exclusively available to students with a valid contract in King’s Residences.
