This opportunity is part of the King's Edge Summer Skills Programme
Join us this June for a free, in-person 2-week British Sign Language (BSL) course delivered by the King’s Language Centre. This interactive course introduces students to the foundations of BSL and Deaf culture, helping you develop practical communication skills and a deeper understanding of the Deaf community.
Throughout the course, you will learn essential language skills including greetings, numbers, times and dates, describing people, activities and the weather, and engaging in simple everyday conversations. The course also introduces the grammatical structure of BSL and key cultural aspects of Deaf culture.
Classes are taught by a member of the Deaf community and focus on interactive learning, collaboration, and real-life communication scenarios. You will practise your skills through group activities designed to recreate everyday situations where BSL is used.
Important: This is a progressive course and students must attend all sessions, as knowledge builds session-by-session. Students who complete the full programme will have the opportunity to apply for an additional 15 hours of study to work towards a Level 1 BSL qualification, taking place from 22nd June - 3rd July
