Suicide is a leading cause of premature death among individuals with eating disorders (EDs), highlighting the urgent need to better understand the factors that contribute to this risk. Despite this, there is limited empirical research examining suicidality during ED recovery—a period that may involve heightened suicide risk but is often assumed to represent clinical improvement. Most existing research has focused on suicidality during active illness, and there remains limited evidence-based guidance or interventions aimed at reducing suicide risk during recovery.
Join PGR student Rachel Whyte as they delve into this Great Minds talk. The first part of this talk will examine what the current literature tells us about suicide risk in EDs, presenting findings from a recently conducted umbrella review of risk factors associated with suicidality and self-harm in ED populations. The second part of this talk will present preliminary quantitative findings from an online survey exploring suicidality and self-harm during eating disorder recovery.
When: 25th March, 1.00pm - 1.45pm
Where: Seminar Room 13, IoPPN
We’re really looking forward to this, and we hope you’ll join us for the final Great Minds of the term! Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.
